What is placed above the name-seal in Chinese Calligraphy?

Question by Enim Corpus meum: What is placed above the name-seal in Chinese Calligraphy?
Hi,

I am a 16 year old male from the Netherlands interested in the Chinese language and calligraphy.

I al read y know the basics of writing calligraphy kaishu and some xingshu. I have my own name-seal and mood-seal.

I have seen some pictures where there are some characters placed above the name-seal.
So my questions are:

– “What is placed above the name-seal in Chinese Calligraphy?”
– “What is generally accepted to write above the name-seal?

Thanks in advance!

Most probably it’s the actual characters of the seal. It’s because the characters are reversed and mostly very difficult to read with naked eyes, printing them on top makes it easy to know which is which.
