If you are licensed to operate amateur radio, you are called a ham. The actual transceiver is also called a ham radio. what does ham mean?

    As I understood it, the old time telegraphers used the term “Ham” for a poor operator. It was applied by them to the amateur radio operators, and the boys sort of picked it up like Yankee Doodle, which had originally been made up as an insult to the Continental Army, but they adopted it and made it their own.
