Amateur Filmmaking

A review of filmmaking is not a very easy thing to do – the span of filmmaking is huge, from simply fooling around with your Camcorder, or having fun making short films using your friends and family as actors, to embracing the Indie films Movement, or considering screenwriting and thus edging into the professional realm, and so it goes on … how far you go with this is entirely up to you.

This site makes no attempt to cover the full scope of filmmaking – all that we try to do here, is to give you a few “hints” and great links to some Products, Video s and Blog s that we hope will inspire you to extend your passion for Filmmaking as a hobby. Once you get absorbed into this wonderful world , you may wish to take it beyond the scope of a hobby, but we will leave that transition up to you.

Here are some of the best links that we have found to get you going with making Filmmaking your chosen Hobby :

Start off with a fantastic book covering the Technical aspects of Filmmaking : Voice & Vision, 2nd Edition : A Creative Approach to Narrative Film and DV Production will set you up with a tremendous foundation.

The ultimate goal of this book is to help you develop your creative voice while acquiring the solid practical skills and confidence to use it. Unlike many books that privilege raw technical information or the line-producing aspects of product ion, Voice & Vision places creativity, visual expression, and cinematic ideas front and center.

I have presumed that you al read y have your Camera/Camcorder – if not, here is CTJ’s choice of online shopping destinations for Amateur Filmmaking .

A Really Exciting Way to Progress is then to look into a formal course to learn filmmaking by enrolling at Lights Online Film School. Lights Online Film School students are given the privilege of working through the film course at their own pace. Most of the students have full or part time jobs, daytime classes or children to care for. The course is “outcomes based” not “time based”, meaning you can take as much time as you need to work through our course material. However, most of the students complete the online film making course within 3-6 months.
